      5. on 08 Aug 2008 at 8:46 am5Bimbo

Deola, I sat my GSE 3 mnths. u have to register 1st and fllow the prcss they say in www.gse.org.ng but my advise is to be ready. the test is not easy. also the time is very fast. but you will get your score in 5 to 10 mins by text to your GSM. but you have to prepare. i got 68% overall. it is the verbal that reduce my scores. i applielied to many of the GSE jobs but only GTB called me for interview. i did not hear from them again since. i have also applied for this one too. good luck. God is in charge.

i called all these “the agony of a job applicant”. It is all about laxity on the part of corporate bodies. You know what as long as you can think of a way to outsmart a remnant generation then i think the economy in the country permits this. I believe we will survive all these.

besto, 3 of us took sat the gse, one of us scored 25% and she has been cursing this gse thing. me and my other friend were called for interview for gtb, i scored 68% and she scored 51%. eventhough they did not call me for the job i am happy with thi approach. my other friend that scored 51% has resumed already. the problem is that our people don’t understand gse. they think it is a recruitmnent company. they don;t see its it is like gmat or jamb or waec. i think gse own is to do the test and give you a score. the rest is for you and emploer and God. my day will come. God is in charge.

The true of the matter is that, if IGI job is the only job remains in this planet, then they should keep it. This is another way of exploiting young and talented graduate in this country. GSE is not a recognize exam and I will never encourage anybody to waste his/her money on it.

      36. on 08 Aug 2008 at 7:38 pm36Stan

      40. on 08 Aug 2008 at 8:50 pm40ambassador

A patient dog (they say) eats the fatest bone. The law of attraction says whatever is yours comes to you. You are attracted to what is within you. GSE cannot be a limitation for you to work in your dream company. God has the final say concerning when and where you would work and not GSE. He doesn’t demand any payment at all. I’m not saying that GSE is right or wrong. I think they are just “doing business”. I encourage you all because there’s a job vacancy waiting to be filled by you. cheers

      41. on 08 Aug 2008 at 8:53 pm41kelechi

      44. on 08 Aug 2008 at 10:20 pm44GSE Information

This post is an official GSE response to comments above. It is not intended to convince applicants to sit the GSE Test. It is merely intended for information purposes only. Nonetheless, for those who have taken the test, it is our prayer that your GSE score will make a difference in your life. At a time when applicants lost their lives at the Immigration Service Aptitude Test, chasing the traditional way of doing test, many Organisations and applicants are beginning to accept that the GSE approach is a far superior way to test graduates.

Our Target at GSE is to ensure that GSE becomes a standard among the top 5000 companies in Nigeria. With one test costing only N5000, you can apply to as many jobs as possible.

The response is a bit long. But I ask for your indulgence.

        Why GSE?

        1. You must be aware of the challenges faced by the Nigerian graduate in seeking their first employment opportunity after graduation and completion of the NYSC. The challenges can be catalogued as follows:
        a. Lack of information as to when and how corporate organisations plan to carry out their aptitude tests and recruitment
        b. Travelling to various locations trying to sit as many aptitude tests as possible with a view to increasing the chances of getting a job
        c. Coping with the ‘Nigerian factor’ and the need for ‘connection’ which at times influences the outcomes of aptitude tests
        d. Graduates today sit for pre-employment aptitude tests and never obtain feedback on how well they perform in the test
        e. Graduates are having to cope with shabby treatment at the aptitude test venues
        f. Being helpless in the face of test cheats who skew the odds against the good candidates in the aptitude test
        g. Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt residents have an advantage over their counterparts in other locations as aptitude tests are conducted mainly in these three locations

        2. To remedy the situation, we have proposed a centralised Graduate Standardisation Examination (GSE). This is a private, nationally available pre-employment assessment. The approach prescribes for employers to all rely on the applicant’s results in the GSE for their ranking and short listing. This centralised and standardised public approach brings the following benefits to the graduate applicants:

        a. It offers equal opportunity to all applicants as they no longer require privilege information on a company’s testing dates as well as special favour to be short listed for the test. Exam centres are in the public domain and will be open to all graduates all year round
        b. With results in the GSE Exam, applicants should be able to apply to the top 500 companies in Nigeria
        c. GSE offers applicants a one stop shop for their graduate entry pre-recruitment assessments for the top 500 companies
        d. Applicants no longer need to travel to the major commercial cities Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt in order to be assessed. GSE is available nationwide
        e. Applicants are provided with immediate feedback on scores
        f. Transparency on cut-off marks allows applicants assess their performance and puts their minds to rest
        g. With GSE, applicants can retake the exam after six months. They are given a second chance
        h. GSE allows applicants to schedule their exams to a date that is most convenient. Sessions are available all year round allowing applicants sit an exam only when they feel comfortable, they can also reschedule if not convenient
        i. GSE allows everybody equal opportunity and is based on meritocracy. It provides a level playing field
        j. With GSE, applicants get sample questions on the web site which gives them an idea of the type of questions to expect. They can prepare
        k. Applicants do not suffer from lost script, examiner fatigue/tiredness, transcription errors etc. The GSE process is completely automated and fully computer based. System and process integrity is very high
        l. Biometrics and digital photo checks exam mercenaries

        3. You should be pleased to also note some of the prevailing conditions that have made graduate recruitment a challenge to most organisations, and has contributed in no small way to the lingering high unemployment levels in the country today. These conditions have had a negative impact on the numbers employed, the manner in which they are employed as well as the costs and other inefficiencies surrounding such activities. Some of these conditions include the following:

        a. The prevailing high level of unemployment resulting in part from the high population of our nation has meant that employers always have to deal with large number of applicants per vacancy
        b. Conducting of aptitude tests by organisations has become a major burden which they find time consuming, cumbersome and expensive.
        i. the organisations have to devise methods of coping with the crowds
ii. control and catch out the exam and test mercenaries who are now the order of the day.
iii. provide the required manpower to mark the scripts ( scoring, ranking and subsequent selection makes up the screening process)
        c. Aptitude tests are seen as a major distraction from the company’s core activities.
        4. Most organisations will agree to the fact that they harbour a lot of real vacancies within their organisations. Vacancies which ordinarily should be filled by any one of the many unemployed Nigerian graduates who are ready, willing and able to perform as required. Unfortunately, such vacant positions are not being filled at the rate and the quantum they should. The reason is simply that commencing a graduate recruitment campaign with all its attendant challenges in terms of time, logistics and security, manpower and other resources means that such campaigns are easily put-off till a later date. It also means that such campaigns cannot be held too often if at all.

        5. The introduction of the Graduate Standardisation Examination is a remedy to the above described situation plaguing employers. The Exam provides a central testing and assessing solution, which allows employers do away with the burden of testing and the hassles inherent in that activity.

        6. With the GSE Revolution, the screening process for graduate intakes will no longer be a challenge as employers will simply define the range of scores they are willing to accept. A cut-off point will be determined and they can proceed to shortlist the applicants based on their scores. We envisage that, making the process easier for employers will see them taking up more graduates than is currently the case.

        7. The benefits to employers include the following:
        a. Efficiency gains which save time and effort, allowing organisations to go straight to the interview phase which is a considerable improvement in screening time for them
        b. The ease of screening inherent in the GSE approach will increase the frequency and quantum of graduate intakes to fill up vacancies
        c. Integrity and objectiveness of the assessment process improves the quality of the graduate hires
        d. By increasing the pool of potential applicants by going nationwide, chances of spotting talents in improved

        8. The following are what we consider the benefits to the nation of the GSE Approach:
        a. With exam centres nationwide, GSE offers equal opportunity to all Nigerians no matter where they live
        b. GSE offers employers a wider pool to select from
        c. GSE reduces the cost of search for applicants by giving them a one stop shop
        d. GSE will increase the employment chances of applicants by increasing their visibility to employers
        e. GSE engenders the culture of meritocracy
        f. By completely eradicating the screening and testing burden from employers, and making it much easier to short-list graduates, employers would increase the quantum and frequency of their graduate intakes having a positive impact on employment at a macro level
        g. The process and supporting systems do not have capacity constraints. There is no limit to the number of users – applicants and employers
        h. The GSE e-Portal will serve as an effective and efficient clearing house for Graduate Recruitment in Nigeria
        i. Integrity of test results is guaranteed as there is no human interface in the GSE Process
        j. It will restore hope to graduates many of whom today feel quite despondent about their prospects for employment
        k. The provision of biometric (finger-print) and digital photo for identification will check-mate the prevalence of test mercenaries
        l. The provision of conducive test centres will put an end to the shabby treatment of applicants at aptitude test venues
        m. Elimination of duplication of efforts and costs as applicants would now only need to take one test
        n. Information flow is on-line real-time guaranteeing immediate feedback to the applicants and ensuring transparency in the process
        o. The test tools all meet international standards and as a result Nigerian Graduates can become attractive to foreign firms

        9. To summarise:
        a. The GSE Approach is a truly patriotic contribution to a very critical aspect of the lives of the Nigerian graduate which restores hope and drastically reduces the burden of job search
        b. The GSE approach is a laudable initiative which promotes meritocracy, transparency, equal opportunity, fair play, integrity, professionalism and best practice
        c. The GSE scheme as a positive development that challenges our graduate human capital pool, strengthens the labour market and acts as a catalyst for development

        Analysis of the Cost N5,000.00

In arriving at the Fee to charge we struck a balance between the need to deliver value (affordability and cost optimization) to the applicant and Commercial viability and sustainability of the GSE Scheme.

        Value to applicants:
        Assumptions
        1. Cost of Job Search can never be zero with transportation costs being the greater part of the cost.
        2. The approach aims to rationalize and optimize this cost
        3. It is assumed that applicants will want to attend minimum of 15 aptitude tests with various employers
        4. Assume that 10 of those will be in Lagos
        5. Average cost per return trip from the North to Lagos is N12,000
        6. Averaging cost per return trip from the South to Lagos (S/West, South South and South East) N4,500
        7. Travel Cost for 10 Aptitude Tests
        a. North N120,000
        b. South N45,000
        8. Applicant may incur these costs, risk their lives traveling long distances and never get to sit the test and never obtain feedback on their performance

        Viability and Sustainability:
        Issues
        1. Test Centres with Infrastructure available all year round (Max Cost of Circa N1000 – N1500 per candidate to sit the test)
        2. Tests are purchased from the UK Technical Partner (12GBP or N3000 but we have negotiated a discount on this)
        3. GSE running expenses and overheads must be accounted for

Cost per test is N5000 per candidate. It will serve the applicant for more than 500 employers for 2 yrs.

This guarantees value to the applicant as well as sustainability of the GSE Scheme.

      45. on 08 Aug 2008 at 11:27 pm45Innocent Oziegbe

GSE is a laudable development.I know many graduates are complaining b/c of the money involved.guys let try to be reasonable and logical here, if many companies patronize GSE,then we stand to benefit the more with just one test to write.wish all the best.
