Seven Up Nigeria: Accounts Manager

Seven Up Bottling Company Plc is one of Nigeria’s leading soft drinks company.

Seven Up is currently recruiting for a an Accounts Manager.

Directly Reports to: General Manager

Job Summary: To co-ordinate all Plant and Depot Accounting activities in the areas of budgeting and budgetary controls, production costing, financial/management reporting and banking of cash/sales and their reconciliation. Ensuring integrity of all company assets in the operation area. Document all local purchases and plan the expected cash flow.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Administration/Planning:

  • Implement company accounting policies and procedures as they relate to Plant and Depot financial transactions.
  • Supervise the effective performance of the plant functions and system on a daily bases.
  • Prepare budget for approval for the plant accounts department and ensure they are strictly implemented and adhered to.
  • Ensure strict enforcement of company policies and procedures of cash collection, system controls and banking.

Financial Control/Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation of plant operating budgets and maintain effective budget monitoring system.
  • Ensure compliance with Head Office reporting requirements.
  • Ensure preparation of proper cost analysis and plant management information for Head Office/Management use.
  • Ensure the accurate processing and reconciliation of all plant/depot financial transactions concerning cash and sales proceeds, bank lodgments, payments, stock/product transfer etc.
  • Co-ordinate stock counts at the plant and depots and ensure proper documentation and reconciliation to books, together with investigation report of any discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly cash flow statements and monthly unit cost of production for the plant/depots, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Make sure of the timely collection and banking of cash/sales proceeds, and preparation of bank drafts for transfer of funds to Head Office.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate consolidation and preparation of all financial and management information/reports for management Head Office use.
  • Liaise with Head Office finance on all aspects of financial activities and for resolution of accounting/operational issues.
  • Provide other user departments in the plant with accurate and up-dated financial reports.

Human Resource Activities:

  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of subordinates and determine their training and development needs.
  • Provide accounts personnel with structured training and orientation to promote professionalism and discipline.

Other Duties:

  • Maintain active and beneficial relationship with designated banks for effective management of plant/company cash flow and banking transactions.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance and processing of staff payroll records, and timely payment of salaries.
  • Provide advice to the General Manager on plant/depots financial issues.
  • Liaise with external auditors during final preparation of company year-end accounts.
  • Also to liaise with company’s Internal Audit on an ongoing basis.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the General Manager or Financial Controller.

Key Performance Objectives & IndicatorsObjective: Oversee the proper maintenance and rendering of plant/depots accounts to provide management with accurate and timely information on plant/depots performance.

Indicators:

  • Level of adherence plant wide to established accounting policies/procedures.
  • Quality and timeliness of reporting to Head Office and budget preparation and effectiveness of budget monitoring systems-early variance detection, etc.
  • Accuracy and reliability of all plant/depots cost analysis and forecasts.
  • Timeliness and adequate of arrangement for lodgment and transfer of sales/cash proceeds.
  • Accuracy, timeliness and usefulness of financial/management reports.
  • Quality of financial advice to plant management.
  • Professionalism and discipline of accounts staff.

Job Specifications

Minimum Education: B.Sc/HND in Accounting plus ACA qualification.

Minimum Experience: 5 years experience performing financial and management accounting responsibilities, preferably at supervisory level.
